During a four-day curfew in Istanbul, only the elderly people were allowed to go out for six hours on May 17, 2020. It was the second time they could enjoy being outside since nearly two months in quarantine at home. Most of them told me they were so happy to be able to enjoy the seaside and having a walk in the peaceful park.

Yalçin Karci, 50, raises mainly Selanik Dönek pigeons, which means Thessaloniki turners, on a plot of land across the street from his home in Tarabya, in the heights of Istanbul. His son also likes to spend his time watching the pigeons fly, it gives him a real sense of freedom during the repeated curfews imposed during the pandemic in Turkey. "My pigeons saved me from being depressed during the pandemic. I have never spent so much time with them in my life, and when I watch them fly, a little bit of myself flies away. It's my therapy.", says Yalçin.
